The Review: Merck at this year’s in-cosmetics

You may have missed the event but you don’t have to miss the facts

In April, the 20th edition of in-cosmetics, Europe’s leading event for cosmetic ingredients, took place in Paris. The economic situation couldn’t stop over 7,839 visitors from attending. Most major players, among them Merck, were present and exhibitors seemed pleased with the results. 

Merck’s booth was always buzzing with visitors. Covering a wide spectrum from dazzling pigments and cosmetic functional fillers to sun care and anti-aging solutions as well as natural products, and selected active skin care ingredients, we offered something of interest to everyone involved in the cosmetics industry. Our visitors were curious to find out about Merck’s great new products and we were thrilled to demonstrate applications and answer all questions.

A wealth of products and concepts for attractive cosmetics solutions

in-cosmetics visitors could hear about trending topics like anti-aging solutions, sun care, and natural products as well as cosmetic effect pigments and functional fillers at Merck’s booth.

Anti-aging

RonaCare® Cyclopeptide-5, the world’s first homodetic cyclic peptide for cosmetic applications, was introduced to the market. Smart molecular design ensures a high selectivity for its biological target – the integrins at the RGD-binding site. Designed to fit certain skin cell surface receptors, RonaCare® Cyclopeptide-5 mimics natural processes of skin cell communication and repair – unfolding unparalleled anti-aging properties. The innovative cyclic molecular design paves the way to a new dimension of anti-aging efficacy.

Sun protection

Those who were eager to take their sunscreens to the next level had the chance to familiarize themselves with an innovative suncare concept at Merck’s booth: Encapsulated, hydrophobic UV filters. They allow for a smooth, non-greasy skin feel and open up new and attractive opportunities for cosmetic formulators.

Insect repellent

Lice products can be attractive and effective. That’s what our visitors could find out during our demonstrations of how to protect children from head lice. A clinical in vivo study had demonstrated excellent head lice prevention performance of one of our ingredients. Kits with the tested formulation were available and suggested attractive ways of selling lice products for kids.

Functional fillers

Functional fillers go far beyond merely adding volume. They are versatile ingredients that add efficacy to cosmetics formulations. Our visitors were able to discover the latest product innovations in Merck’s RonaFlairTM functional fillers portfolio. They help create cosmetic products with unique sensory and visual properties and allow cosmetic formulators to give their products “a little something extra” that sets them apart from competitive offers at the point of sale.

Cosmetic effect pigments

Novel Xirona® and Timiron® effect pigments add metallic color travel effects and dramatic luster to any color cosmetic or personal care product. Merck’s demonstrations showed how to become trendsetters in the areas of color and effect design and how to enter new styling areas. Xirona® and Timiron® effect pigments are approved for use around the globe and suited for all cosmetic applications. Superior application properties make creating unique and irresistible beauty products a breeze.

Color Forecast

The Merck Chemicals Color Forecast – always right on time, always right on the trend. The Spring/Summer 2011 season invited our visitors to embrace the future with an optimistic outlook. We identified 4 typical color personalities in next year’s seasons: The “In Bloom” woman is next season’s Hippie Deluxe. The “Wanderlust” woman is a cosmopolitan and sophisticated lady. The “Solaris” woman, a real sun-worshipper. And last but not least the young & carefree “Cheerful” woman.
